The Future Business Leaders of America District II “Preliminary Testing” Conference was held at the Valley Falls middle and high schools Jan. 14.

Nine schools and 158 students attended the conference consisting of Valley Falls, Jefferson County North, Oskaloosa, Jefferson West, Perry-Lecompton, Troy, Holton, Leavenworth, and Jackson Heights.

Valley Falls junior Amanda Sales, the District II vice president, led the district conference, which was attended by state president Kymee Noll and state treasurer Katie Twenhafel, both of JCN.

The purpose of the conference was to prepare students for the state competition. Students took tests to show their knowledge on business related skills. Testing ranged from health care to technology procedures.

Presentations were also given and judged as a preparation for state. Events included Entrepreneurship, Business Presentation, Emerging Business Issues, Public Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Parliamentary Procedures, Client Service, and many more.

Assisting with the conference was Sharon Porter, Valley Falls FBLA adviser, and the Valley Falls FBLA members.

“FBLA is highly beneficial because students have the opportunity to expand their leadership and business skills to be better prepared for the real world,” Sales said.
