Wellington Fire and Police departments faced off last Friday, September 13th at this year’s Battle of the Badges. The Knights of Columbus facility off Harvey, hosted the American Red Cross, as we strived to reach a goal of 75 units of blood donated.

Each person that donated a unit was given an opportunity to vote for either the Fire or Police Department. However, people had many reasons people came out. Jerry Skinner, donating red blood cells was hoping “to bring the Jayhawks a little luck.”

Friday, donors were treated to a nice meal of Chicken Tetrazzini and fruit along with homemade cookies and packaged snacks. Coordinator of the event Bernadine Koger mentioned, “It’s only through the generosity of Mission Thrift Shop that we are able to offer such a nice meal.

After votes were tallied and counted, congratulations are in order to our Wellington Fire Department, for pulling the most votes, and being awarded the Battle of the Badges trophy for one more year.
