Mary Layton

Mary Sue Enos Layton, 73, died Feb. 3, 2012, in Lawrence.

She was the daughter of Allen and Marjorie Newell Enos, Perry, born June 16, 1938. She graduated from Perry Rural High School.

She married James W. Layton July 1, 1968, in Ft. Worth, Texas, where they resided until his death in July 2005. She then returned to Kansas to be near family, as she was confined to nursing homes by Parkinson’s disease.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Zimri Allen.

She is survived by sisters, Emily Pechefsky, Brooklyn, N.Y., and Virginia Richards, Perry; and three brothers, Paul, Lawrence, Newell, Salem, Ore., and Richard Randall, Middletown, N.Y.

Her passion was walking events and she received a commendation from the American Heart Association for being a top fundraiser through walking.

Family and friends shared recollections at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka, Feb. 7. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Newman, with a family graveside service.
