Fire Crews were called to a structure fire in Silver Lake around 11:40 p.m. Sunday.

The house was fully involved when first responders arrived.

Shawnee County Dispatch said an engine from the Silver Lake Fire Department and an engine from Rossville Fire Department responded to the blaze, along with a Tanker from the Soldier Fire Department.

Six people lived in the home, four children and two adults.  The father, who is wheel chair bound may have suffered burns to the face and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The others were checked or treated at the scene for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Several explosions were going off when first responders arrived, indicating there may be ammunition in the home.

Dispatch confirmed that Westar Energy Crews cut power to the house while fire crews were battling the blaze, which also cut power to a nearby railroad crossing.  Power was restored a short time later.

A crew from the American Red Cross was on the scene to provide the family assistance.

No word on what caused the fire.  The Kansas Fire Marshal’s office has been called to investigate.
