Thomas Hattemer Sr.

Thomas H. “Tom” Hattemer Sr., 68, Oskaloosa, died Jan. 12, 2012, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka.

He was born March 4, 1943, at Topeka, the son of Harold LaVern and Lavina Ailene Thomas Hattemer. He was a 1961 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended E.C.P.I. computer training and Washburn University.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1966 to 1967. He was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. in Topeka and a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Topeka for 13 years, retiring in 1998.

He married Bonnie Inkster July 20, 1963. They divorced. He married Teresa Denise Green May 21, 1984, at Oskaloosa. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Thomas Harold Hattemer Jr., New Bavaria, Ohio; two daughters, Veronica Jean Pierson, Waterville, Ohio, and Sonya Eckoff, Topeka; two brothers, Terry Hattemer and Ed Hattemer, both Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hattemer, one grandson, Dustin Eckhoff, and a granddaughter, Sydnie Eckhoff.

Funeral services were Feb. 6 at the Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Burial was at the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Memorials can be made to American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association or to the Jefferson County Friends of Hospice and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 602, Oskaloosa, 66066.
