We are seeing some moisture pushing up from the south this morning. Warmer air is accompanying this moisture and the temperature is rising pretty steadily, but we are still below freezing at this time. There is a chance of mixed precipitation through 9:30 am
The weather forecast has been changed a little for tomorrow and I wanted to get a note out on it.
There is now a slight chance of rain or freezing rain between 9am and 11am, then a slight chance of rain after 11am. Increasing clouds, with a high near 44. South wind between 5 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Below is the predominant weather graphic from the NWS for 9am tomorrow. The models are showing an increase of moisture coming in from the system in the gulf area. The possibility is pretty low, but it is significant enough to watch out for.
Here’s hoping you’ve been good, because Santa is on his way. And now families across the world can see just how far Saint Nick and his reindeer are from their homes, thanks to a ‘Santa Tracker’ that follows his route around the globe.
The tracker – a collaboration between Google and the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) – shows live footage of the sleigh passing landmarks including Big Ben, the Empire State Building and, of course, his grotto in the North Pole. It uses radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jets to follow his sleigh, and can be seen online on Google Earth. Santa can also been seen on the Google Maps app on smart phones by typing in ‘Santa’ or on the NORAD Santa Site.
Below is a snapshot from the site.

I have had quite a few people ask me about the weather for this weekend. For those staying in the area the weather looks nice. There will not be a white Christmas this year in Jefferson County though. Skies should be clear all weekend and high temperatures will be in the 40’s. Evening lows will drop down in the 20’s. Not bad for the end of December. I do know that quite a few people will be traveling this weekend and have asked me about travel weather. I figured I would just look at some nation wide forecasts and point out some trouble areas.
Looking at the national weather situation it is shocking that there are no major active weather systems foretasted for this holiday weekend. There is a chance for snow in New Mexico at the beginning of the weekend and in Washington State at the end of the weekend. Temperatures also look to be fairly mild across the Country.
Below is the composite winter weather graphic for the 25th, not much activity anywhere.
Next up is the high temperature map for the 25th, it looks very normal for this time of year.
Last graphic I will post on this is the morning lows for the 25th, once again very average for this time of year.
All in all, it looks like as perfect weekend to travel as you can get in late December.
