Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Jefferson County
Jefferson County has been placed in a severe thunderstorm watch until 11pm. There is a line of storms moving towards the County that has produced 60-90 mph winds. Pay very close attention to the weather for the next few hours.

We will need to keep an eye on these rapidly developing storm cells. Microbursts will be the primary hazard.
Perry Lake still releasing
Perry is still releasing water. In addition The Corps of Engineers will increase the release from Tuttle Creek this week. This will raise the Kansas River an additional 2 feet this week.
At the current and projected release rate it looks like most of the facilities will be available at Perry Lake for Labor Day weekend.
Perry Lake Holding Water Again
Perry lake is once again holding water due to flooding issues downstream.
Perry Lake releasing water
The Kansas City District, Corps of Engineers has authorized the Perry Lake Project Manager to begin releasing significant amounts of water from the reservoir. The authorized rate of release is 8000 cubic feet per second. At this rate the Lake is expected to drop around 10″ per day. In addition, this release combined with the releases from Milford and Tuttle Creek will cause the Kansas River to remain “bank full” for the foreseeable future.
High water causes closures at Perry Lake
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City District, Corps of Engineers announced today that all boat ramps have been temporarily closed along with many roadways and campsites at Perry Lake in Kansas. The corps said that at 907.29 feet msl the current water level is nearly 16 feet above normal. With the water at this level, many roadways and campsites have been submerged and the courtesy docks are out of the water, said the corps. The corps’ priority is safety and has erected barricades in areas around the lake to protect the public and, cautions that those who drive around them will be fined. Dangerously Hot Today With Strong Storms Possible Late
The heat index values today will be in the 105 to 110 degree range. A cool front will move south today and bring a chance of thunderstorms to the area late this afternoon through Thursday. Some severe storms are possible tonight and early Thursday.
