Mesoscale Discussion 0068 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0531 AM CST Sat Jan 15 2022 Areas affected...Southwest and Central Missouri...Far Northwest Arkansas Concerning...Heavy snow Valid 151131Z - 151730Z SUMMARY...Areas of heavy snow are expected to develop this morning from central and southwestern Missouri into far northwestern Arkansas. Snowfall rates exceeding 1 inch per hour will be possible. DISCUSSION...The latest water-vapor imagery shows an upper-level low over central Kansas. This feature will continue to move southward into the southern Plains this morning. At the surface, a 1007 mb low is present in far southwestern Arkansas with an inverted trough extending northward into western Missouri, where a cold front is located. Large-scale ascent is maximized to the east of the low across parts of the Ozarks, where a large area of precipitation is ongoing. The precipitation consists of snow from central and western Missouri into far northwestern Arkansas. Rainfall is located across much of south-central and southeastern Missouri. Rain may change over to snow in some locations in south-central Missouri as temperatures cool above the boundary layer. The temperature could cool to 32 degrees F where the heaviest snowfall develops. Due to strong ascent associated with the upper-level low, heavy snow exceeding one inch per hour will be possible within the most organized snow banding. ..Broyles/Edwards.. 01/15/2022 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
