Doug Schmitt has dedicated himself to a life of public service with over 20 years as a firefighter. Doug is currently serving the citizens of Soldier Township, a suburb of Topeka in Shawnee County, KS as their Fire Chief. In addition, Doug is also on the Northeast Kansas Incident Management Team and has responded to many disasters in Kansas helping those communities in their time of need.
Doug is also an active member of the University of Kansas Women’s Basketball team booster club, The Hardwood Club. Doug is currently serving as the president of that organization and he can usually be found sitting courtside at their home games.
Doug enjoys tinkering with projects and constantly learning something new. Over the years, Doug has acquired multiple skills sets and a very diverse knowledge base from activities and employments in addition to the Public Safety realm. Doug’s past employments and activities include being a US Army Infantryman, chemical plant foreman, ASE certified automotive repair technician, amateur radio operator, commercial truck driver and by developing his own website and computer network.
Doug is also an avid weather enthusiast who spends most of his springs watching the weather in Kansas for the emergency management community and the NWS.
