MD 1963 CONCERNING HEAVY SNOW FOR PORTIONS OF FAR SOUTHWESTERN NEW YORK
Mesoscale Discussion 1963 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0528 PM CST Fri Nov 18 2022 Areas affected...portions of far southwestern New York Concerning...Heavy snow Valid 182328Z - 190130Z SUMMARY...1-2 inch/hr snowfall rates should continue for at least a couple more hours, with dangerous travel conditions persisting. DISCUSSION...A long-lived lake-effect snow band continues to promote 1-2 inch/hr snowfall rates across areas immediately east of Lake Erie as deep-layer ascent continues overhead with the passage of a surface lee trough. These heavier snowfall rates should continue for a couple more hours given the persistence of steep low-level lapse rates. In a few more hours, as the aforementioned lapse rates become more shallow, a gradual lessening of snowfall rates may follow. However, deep-layer flow fields should continue to parallel the long axis of Lake Erie, promoting a continued deep fetch of moisture with the ongoing snow band. As such, at least light to moderate snowfall rates and occasionally gusty conditions should continue into tonight, with travel conditions remaining dangerous. ..Squitieri.. 11/18/2022 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
