Emergency workers sifted through the pieces of wreckage just minutes after a Jeep carrying one person rolled several times and ejected the driver, Donald G. VanDyke, 54, Perry, on Wednesday, Jan. 18, around 7:15 p.m. VanDyke was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report VanDyke had been traveling northbound on U.S. 59 Highway about three miles south of Oskaloosa when the Jeep left the roadway and rolled several times before coming to a rest in the west ditch. VanDyke was not wearing a seat belt according to the report.
It was the second time in two days a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 59 Highway near Osage Road resulted in a driver losing his life.
