Day 3 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0213 AM CDT Wed Mar 23 2022 Valid 251200Z - 261200Z ...NO THUNDERSTORM AREAS FORECAST... ...SUMMARY... Severe weather is not expected across the U.S. on Friday. ...Discussion... As the primary mid-level trough crossing the eastern U.S. moves offshore during the day, the overall longwave troughing/cyclonic flow will be maintained over the eastern half of the country Friday, as a short-wave trough/low digs southeastward out of the Canadian Prairie across the north-central U.S. and into the Upper Great Lakes/Midwest region. Meanwhile upstream, ridging will persist over the West. At the surface, a cold front -- already well offshore over the western Atlantic -- should clear far southern Florida and the Keys very early in the day. Afterward, reinforcing surges of cold air are expected across the eastern U.S., in tandem with short-wave reinforcement of the longer-wavelength upper troughing. As a result, prevalence of a continental polar airmass across the eastern half of the country will suppress deep convective potential east of the Rockies. In the West, ridging/subsidence should likewise hinder appreciable potential for convection/lightning, and therefore, aside from a lingering lightning flash or two over the vicinity of the southern Florida coast/Keys early in the period, thunderstorms are not expected across the U.S. through the period. ..Goss.. 03/23/2022
