Areas affected...East-central North Dakota into portions of
northwest Minnesota

Concerning...Snow Squall

Valid 110024Z - 110330Z

SUMMARY...Brief moderate to heavy snowfall and gusty winds will
occur this evening with a snow squall approaching the Red River.
This squall will likely impact portions of northwestern Minnesota as
well until weakening within the next 3-5 hours.

DISCUSSION...KMVX radar has continued to show a more well-defined
band on snow along the eastward moving arctic cold front. Forecast
soundings indicate this band has a very slight convective element to
it. Recent surface observations from Devil's Lake reported heavy
snow with winds gusting to 35 kts. Given the strong convergence
along the front and some favorable lift from a mid-level shortwave
trough, this activity is expected to continue for at least the next
1-3 hours. Some CAM guidance suggests some potential for the line to
be maintained up to 4-5 hours, but surface convergence and mid-level
lift does appear to eventually weaken this evening.
