MD 0563 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 147… FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL OKLAHOMA
Mesoscale Discussion 0563 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0611 PM CDT Wed Apr 19 2023 Areas affected...Portions of central Oklahoma Concerning...Tornado Watch 147... Valid 192311Z - 200045Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 147 continues. SUMMARY...A threat for large hail continues along the I-44 corridor in central Oklahoma this evening. The tornado threat is expected to increase this evening. DISCUSSION...Several supercells have developed in southwest and central Oklahoma early this evening. Multiple splitting supercells have been observed thus far, with primarily a large hail threat with hail as large as 2.25 inch reported. Even larger hail is possible as these supercells mature this evening. The KOUN VWP has shown gradually increasing low-level flow with around 40 knots at around 1km at 2243Z. In addition, low-level flow has backed substantially across central Oklahoma, in response to a region of pressure falls southwest of Oklahoma City, observed by the Oklahoma Mesonet. This has increased 0-1 SRH to around 250-300 m2/s2. As the low-level jet continues to strengthen and low-level flow backs further (per high resolution guidance), the tornado threat will increase in the 7-9 pm timeframe. A strong tornado is possible given maturing supercells and increasing low-level shear. ..Bentley.. 04/19/2023 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...TSA...OUN...
