Mesoscale Discussion 0656 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0615 PM CDT Fri Apr 28 2023 Areas affected...South-central Texas...Middle Texas Coastal Plain Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 179...180... Valid 282315Z - 290115Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 179, 180 continues. SUMMARY...A wind-damage and large hail threat will likely develop across parts of south-central Texas and across the middle Texas Coastal Plain. New weather watch issuance will likely be needed over the next hour or so. DISCUSSION...A continuous line of severe storms is currently located from just north of San Antonio northeastward to near College Station. Moderate to strong instability ahead of the line, along with a strengthening 30 to 40 knot low-level jet, will continue to sustain a severe threat over the next few hours. The line is forecast to move southeastward along a gradient of moderate instability, crossing the middle Texas Coastal Plain this evening. The primary threats, associated with the stronger parts of the line, will be wind damage and large hail. As the line moves southeastward and approaches the edge of WW 179 and WW 180, a new weather watch will need to be issued across parts of the Texas Coastal Plain. Further to the east across the Houston area, a stout cap is in place and instability is weak. For these reasons, the severe threat is expected to be more isolated in the Houston area. ..Broyles.. 04/28/2023 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product... ATTN...WFO...HGX...CRP...EWX...
