Areas affected...far southeast KY and eastern TN into far western
VA/NC

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 268...

Valid 120007Z - 120100Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 268
continues.

SUMMARY...Strong gusts and hail may persist another couple of hours
across parts of far southeast Kentucky and eastern Tennessee. The
threat is expected to wane with eastward extent across far western
Virginia and North Carolina this evening and a downstream watch is
not expected.

DISCUSSION...A few strong to severe thunderstorms are ongoing across
parts of eastern Tennessee into far southeast Kentucky this evening.
Damaging gusts and hail are the main hazards accompanying this
activity in the short term. As convection continues to shift east,
storms will move into lessening instability while nocturnal
boundary-layer cooling resulting in increasing inhibition. A local
aerial extension may be needed across a small part of eastern TN,
but any severe potential downstream from WW 268 is expected to be
limited in time/space. As convection weakens with eastward extent
small hail and gusty winds may accompany storms into far eastern TN
and far western VA/NC, but overall severe potential is expected to
be low across these areas.
