Police are investigating after an 11-month-old boy was found unresponsive at a Kansas City daycare on Tuesday and was later pronounced dead.
The child was at Advantage Child Care Center, located at 55th and Metropolitan in Kansas City, Kan. Authorities said when workers went to wake the child, they found him unresponsive. The daycare is located next door to a fire station, and KCK Fire Chief Craig Duke said fire fighters were called by daycare workers around 4 p.m. after they could not wake the child.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene and performed CPR while transporting the child to the University of Kansas Hospital where the boy was later pronounced dead.
Back at the daycare, investigators removed a crib, two bags of evidence and other items from inside the daycare. Police said this is standard procedure in a death investigation involving a child.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
The daycare provider could not be reached for comment.
