2 dogs killed in East Wichita house fire

A passerby spotted heavy smoke coming from a home and called 911.  It happened shortly after 10 a.m. in the 600 block of N. Hampton Road in Wichita.

Battalion Chief John Turner said when crews arrived the kitchen heavily involved in fire and smoke throughout the home.  Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.

Turner says the kitchen was destroyed in the fire and there is smoke damage throughout the home.  Damage is estimated at $50,000.

No one was home when the fire started, but five dogs were trapped inside.  Two of the dogs died in the fire, a third dog was successfully resuscitated by firefighters.

The cause remains under investigation.
