The Nickerson Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a fire Monday that severely damaged a local residence.
No one was injured in the blaze, which started between 3:30 and 4 p.m. Monday at 102 N. Burr in Nickerson, according to Nickerson Fire Chief Kenneth Burgess. By 6:30 p.m., firefighters still remained at the scene checking for hot spots, Burgess said.
The fire started in the attic of the home and left a couple of holes in the roof after firefighters doused the blaze.
Burgess called the damaged home a “substantial loss” and said the Red Cross was assisting the displaced family, whose names were not immediately available.
