Contractor Approved, EMS Building Construction to Start

The Burrton Consolidated Fire District Board has awarded a contract to Regier Construction, Inc. of Newton as the general contractor for the construction of a new emergency services center.

The board met on July 29. The contract was finalized after discussion with the architect and the contractor that was the low bidder. Regier was hired for the project at a cost of $1,092,035.

Construction on the new Emergency Services Center will begin within 30 days and is expected to be completed within 240 days of the beginning of construction.

The fire district is publishing its budget in this week’s Independent. The review of the 2014 budget was done at the meeting and a hearing date of August 119 at 6 p.m. at the council room was decided on.

The fire board also announced that the department was awarded a grant of $3,000 from the Kansas Forest Service on a 50-50 matching grant for a new remote nozzle for squad 43, the newest of Burrton’s brush trucks.
