Several crews are on the scene of an apartment fire in the 2200 block of south Oliver.
Heavy smoke and fire can be seen pouring from the roof of one of the buildings at the Ashley Lane apartment complex.
The fire broke out about 5:30 this morning in building 700. Crews were met with flames when they arrived, and just before 6 a.m., a second alarm was issued.
But about 6:15 a “defensive” call was issued, meaning all firefighters were pulled out of the building due to safety concerns.
Police and firefighters are having difficultly getting people out of the building and keeping residents from returning to the building. Additional police have been called to handle that situation.
Oliver is blocked both directions and drivers will have to find another route around the scene, which will be shut down for several more hours.
