The Dodge City Community College football  team was involved in a car accident early Sunday morning, Aug. 25. The accident  occurred east of Spearville around 1:30 a.m. after the school bus, transporting  some passengers from the college football team ran into a herd of cattle that  was blocking the road.

According to David Wetmore, Director of Marketing and Human  Resources for Dodge City Community College, there was no way for the bus to  avoid the cattle. In total, nine cows were killed. The passengers of the bus  suffered no injuries.

“We regret the loss of the cattle but we are certainly pleased that  no [passengers] were hurt,” Wetmore said.

The football team was returning from a game against Butler Community  College in El Dorado. According to Wetmore, bus driver Brice Simpsons kept the  bus under control during the accident. The school bus suffered some  damage.

Following the school bus were four vans transporting players and  coaches, after those passengers were brought home, an additional bus was sent  back for those aboard the damaged bus.
