A fire had occurred at the Cal-Maine egg facility’s manure barn at approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday. Rice County Fire Department Chief Ed Feil explained on Wednesday that the cause of the fire was still largely undetermined. The fire was contained by approximately 4 p.m. on Friday. Feil explained that although it was called the “manure barn,” it also held hay and equipment, all of which were ruined by the fire. By the time firefighters had arrived at the scene, the building was already engulfed in fire. The buildings sidewalls and floor were cement and therefore largely undamaged, however the roof had significant damage and had caved in on top of some of the hay bales. Photo by Ryan Carlson.
