A wood-burning stove was the culprit in a structure fire at 311 W. 9th Street in St. John a little before 7 p.m., Monday night.
St. John firefighters responded to the fire that the reporting person said was started by a wood burning stove inside the residence that was too close to a wall.
Fire was just breaching the eaves and attic of the residence when firefighters arrived.
By 7:30 p.m. the fire appeared to be under control. Firefighters are still on scene.
The house suffered extensive smoke and water damage. No estimates on the amount were given.
