An abandoned home on Hwy. 152 east in La Cygne caught fire Wednesday evening. Regarding the property, La Cygne Police Chief Tate West said, “There were no injuries in the fire. The house was unoccupied and had been gutted. It was determined that the fire would not be investigated by the State Fire Marshal or the fire department.
West explained that the cause of the fire would not be investigated due to multiple reasons. First, he noted, the structure was not occupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.
“Second,” he added, “it was not insured and there was not a financial gain to be made by that (investigation).”
West continued, “The owner of the property had received a letter about the house and now it has become a safety issue. The were given 10 days to alleviate that issue.” The property owner chose to enter an agreement with the city to have the property removed by January 8, 2014.
