Three city workers were checking wells when they were stranded south of town on 15th road.

Another worker in a back hoe tried to pull them out, but the back hoe drove into a washed out area and went in the east ditch.

All four workers were then stranded near 15th road and Ave O. The workers contacted the Lyons Fire Department. Both the Lyons and Sterling Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Firefighters used an army 6×6 truck to get to the city workers and give them life jackets. Lyons Fire Chief Brad Reid said the water was three to four feet deep.
