Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews are on the scene of a Haz-Mat investigation in southern Lawrence this morning.
Crews were dispatched to a duplex in the 2500 block of Crestline Court at 1:45 a.m. Monday. The incident began after a resident of the Crestline Court address arrived at a gas station near 31st and Iowa.
A medic unit was dispatched to the gas station to assess the resident, while other crews were sent to the residence.
A source familiar with the investigation tells Operation 100 News that a, 40-year-old, man was “exposed to an unknown chemical in his home.” The man left his home, to find help, after he began experiencing symptoms of chemical exposure. His symptoms are said to include red eyes, face and nose.
As of 3:20 a.m., the man has been transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Lawrence Police have also requested that the on-call Animal Control Officer be dispatched to the scene to remove at least one dog from the duplex.
At least three fire crews, two medic units, two LDCFM chiefs and Lawrence Police are on the Crestline Court scene. One medic unit remains at the gas station with the resident of the address.
As of 7 a.m., this remains an active scene.
There have been no other injuries reported and no word of any evacuations.
