Emporia firefighters have controlled a mobile home fire at 1753 Road E, lot 92, in rural Emporia around 4:05 p.m. today.
Homeowner Jerry Sieminskie said he did not know how the fire started because he was not there.
The only occupant of the mobile home was Richard VanBuren, Sieminskie said. VanBuren got out safely, but the mobile home appears to be a total loss.
Emporia emergency medical technicians checked VanBuren for injuries and released him, said Battalion Chief Steve Kuhlmann of the Emporia Fire Department. When the firefighters arrived on scene, the mobile home was fully engulfed.
Americus volunteer firefighters assisted the Emporia Fire Department. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was also on scene.
Lyon-Coffey Electric Cooperative Inc. secured the meter, and Kansas Gas Service shut off the gas, Kuhlmann said.
The Emporia Fire Department is investigating the fire.
