A structure Tuesday morning in Perry claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman, an official said.
Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig said dispatchers received a report of a structure fire at 9:27 a.m. at a residence at 209 Main Street. After arriving at the scene, firefighters located the resident, Mary Quezada.
Quezada was handicapped and in a wheelchair, Herrig said, and hadn’t been able to escape the structure.
He said Quezada was pulled from the house, and responders attempted life-saving techniques but failed.
