Hays Fire 26aug2013

Hays Post – August 26, 2013

An early Monday morning fire in the 2400 Block of Saline River Road sent three to the hospital. According to Ellis County Rural Fire Director Dick Klaus all three were fortunate to get out of the home.

“The fire started just before 1 a.m.,” said Klaus. “The home was totally engulfed when fire companies 2, 3 and 5 arrived.”

The State Fire Marshal was on the scene Monday morning and reported the fire started in a lower level kitchen. An exact cause of the blaze is still undetermined.

A barking dog alerted residents of the fire. They had to exit the home from windows on the above level wrap around balcony-porch. The residence is considered a total loss. Fire crews finished their work at the scene just before noon on Monday.
