Special Weather Statement issued August 08 at 12:00AM CDT by NWS Topeka
…Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of Franklin, eastern
Jefferson, Anderson, Douglas, Osage, Coffey and southern Lyon
Counties through 1230 AM CDT…
At 1159 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from 3 miles southeast of Winchester to Lawrence to
11 miles west of Madison. Movement was east at 35 mph. The stronger
wind gusts are located with the outflow boundary about 10 to 15
miles ahead of the line of thunderstorms.
HAZARD…Winds of 40 to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE…Radar indicated.
IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include…
Lawrence, Emporia, Ottawa, Baldwin City, Garnett, Osage City,
Burlington, Carbondale, Oskaloosa, Eudora, Wellsville, Overbrook,
Lyndon, Centropolis, Lebo, McLouth, Pomona, Scranton, Waverly and
Clinton.
This includes the following highways…
Interstate 35 between mile markers 128 and 198.
Kansas Turnpike between mile markers 116 and 135, and between mile
markers 194 and 205.
MAX HAIL SIZE…0.25 IN
MAX WIND GUST…40 MPH
