NWS Topeka (Northeastern Kansas)
Winter Storm Watch issued December 30 at 2:43PM CST until January 02 at 12:00AM CST by NWS Topeka
…WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE FRIDAY NIGHT
THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING…
* WHAT…Widespread wintry precipitation is expected across the
region. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches, up to a half
inch of sleet accumulation, and light ice accumulations of a few
hundredths of an inch are possible. Winds could gust as high as
35 mph.
* WHERE…Portions of central, east central, and northeast Kansas.
Any light ice accumulations are most likely southeast of
Interstate 35.
* WHEN…From late Friday night through Saturday evening.
* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing
snow could significantly reduce visibility. The cold wind
chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on
exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Very cold wind chills Saturday and
Saturday night could be dangerous for vulnerable populations
and those that may become stranded in their vehicles.
Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.
