R-Bar-B expansion approved, 2-1

by Jared Speckman

The county commission made a split decision to approve the conditional use permit for the expansion of R-Bar-B Monday afternoon.

The commissioners along with business owners and owners of adjoining properties to the business joined in the discussion.

Jeff Van Petten, Meriden, spoke before the conditions of the permit were discussed. Van Petten is a neighbor to the business and spoke in favor of the expansion.

“It’s a good story for our county to have one of the best equine businesses in the state if not the Midwest,” he said.

Van Petten spoke about the opportunities that Russ and Dina Brown, owners of R-Bar-B, provide to the youth in Jefferson County with their support of the 4-H organization. He also asked the commission not to restrict county business too much.

“I think we need to be careful not putting undue restraints on businesses in the county,” he said.
