City Establishes Snow Routes, Reminds Residents to Clear Walks

The City has a Snow and Ice Maintenance Map that indicates primary and secondary roads that will have snow and ice removed by city crews. The map also identifies roads cooperatively maintained by Riley County and those cleared by Kansas Department of Transportation crews. View a PDF map here.

During winter weather, City Ordinance dictates that residents must remove snow and ice from any sidewalk used by the general public and adjacent to their property within 36 hours of the end of any measurable precipitation that has accumulated. Snow removed from private properties should not be placed on any city street, alley, sidewalk or parking lot without prior approval from the city. If residents refuse to remove snow and ice from their sidewalks, the city can take action to remove the snow and ice and assess associated costs to the property owner or occupant.
