Crash and Fire injures 2 western Kansas men

US 156 was closed for several hours on Thursday following a 2 vehicle crash and fire in Hodgeman county.KHP

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol thirty-two year old Dustin M. Lee of Hanston was driving a 1988 International truck eastbound on U156, 3 miles east of Hanston on Thursday.

A 2007 Freightliner semi-truck driving by Bart T. Smith age 25 of Garden City was also eastbound and slowing to make a left turn onto County Rd 230.

The International truck attempted to pass the semi-truck at the intersection, as the semi was making the left turn and hit the semi-truck on the left side, spinning the truck into the north ditch.

The International then traveled into the north ditch as well. Both vehicle cabs were destroyed by fire after the collision. Lee and Smith were transported to the hospital in Hanston. Both were wearing seat belts.
