Dennis Hawver, a Jefferson County lawyer who defended Phillip D. Cheatham Jr. in a capital murder case in which the Kansas Supreme Court overturned the verdicts and death penalty sentence, faces a complaint filed by the Kansas disciplinary administrator’s office.
The formal complaint was mailed to Hawver on Tuesday, public information officer Ron Keefover said Thursday. In the formal complaint, the Kansas Board of Discipline of Attorneys contended Hawver violated six standards of the Kansas Rules of Professional Conduct.
