Assistant Fire Chief George Stevens confers with two Pratt firefighters before they enter Apartment 2 at 322 West First to evaluate an accumulation of gas in the apartment. An unlit gas burner on a stove was left on for several hours in the unattended apartment Tuesday afternoon causing a gas accumulation in the apartment. When the residents returned home they discovered the problem and called the fire department. An couple of open windows in the apartment prevented the gas from building up too much. The burner was turned off and the gas feed to the apartment was also shut off. The apartment was allowed to air out and nothing was damaged, said Pratt Fire Chief David Kramer. Photo by Gale Rose.
