One person killed in motorcycle vs. semi accident in Wichita

Emergency crews responded to a fatal accident Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Mt. Vernon and South Pattie.

It happened around 1:30.

When crews arrived on the scene, they found a motorcycle had crashed into a semi.

“The semi truck was making a left handed turn. The motorcyclist was westbound on Mt. Vernon when they collided,” said Sgt. Kelly O’Brien, Wichita Police Department.

Officers are still interviewing witnesses to get more details on the crash.

Police say it appears the person was ejected and wasn’t wearing a helmet.

“We definitely encourage people to be cautious of motorcyclists on the road. Sometimes during the daylight and certain situations, they are hard to see. Also, we encourage motorcyclists to wear their helmet and ride safely,” said O’Brien.

Police have not released the name of the victim.
