The Pittsburg Fire Department puts out flames at Meadowbrook Mall, but only as a demonstration. This is part of the Department’s annual Fire Prevention Week.
Locals got to see what happens when water is added to a grease fire. Area children got the chance to be hands, when the Department allowed kids to help hold the hose and they put out the flames.
The Fire Chief says the National Fire Protection Association chooses a topic each year.
“This year’s topic is kitchen safety so this year the guys did a great job at building that prop we got a head of the game a few months ago and brain stormed on this prop and they’ve done a good job on it,” said Pittsburg Fire Chief Mike Simons.
The Fire Department also shows off the oldest fire trucks in the fleet and the state of Kansas – it’s a 1938 Hydraulic Fire Truck the first in Kansas.
