Statewide Fire Safety Poster Contest

I am pleased to announce that the Office of the State Fire Marshal is conducting a statewide fire safety poster contest. The purpose of the contest is to recognize those elementary school students that best demonstrate an understanding of fire safety tips.

The contest will take place during the month of October to coincide with Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12) to help emphasize and support your fire safety education efforts. The contest will be divided into two age groups: Grades K-3 and Grades 4-6.

Posters will be judged first by local fire departments, and those winning local entries will be submitted to the State Fire Marshal where a winner in each category will be named. All entries submitted to our office will be displayed in the State Capitol rotunda during a week in January. The two state-wide winners will be invited to meet Governor Sam Brownback and Fire Marshal Doug Jorgensen and have their pictures taken with them.

Contest rules, datelines and other information are below and must be followed to be considered.

I encourage you to take this opportunity to work with the schools in your fire district to reinforce our efforts in safeguarding Kansans and, in particular, its children.

Sincerely,

Doug Jorgensen
State Fire Marshal
