The Norton County Rural Fire Department and the Norton County Sheriff responded to a vehicle fire at mile-marker 112 on U.S. 36 on Wednesday afternoon. The vehicle, a red 1988 Dodge pickup, started losing power, according to the driver, Astelle Hawkins of Norcatur, and fire was coming from the engine compartment. She pulled over and the truck became fully engulfed in flames, resulting in a total loss of the vehicle. There were no injuries to the driver or passengers and the fire crews quickly extinguished the flames. Photo by Mike Stephens.
