5/24/2011 Severe Weather

I am looking at a potential for some very severe storms to develop this afternoon and evening in Kansas. There are some storms developing this morning that will have an impact on the development of storms this afternoon. I’m expecting the morning storms will be capable of small hail and winds of around 60 mph.

The afternoon and evening storms will be capable of large hail, high winds and tornadoes. I’m expecting the forecast to be somewhat fluid this afternoon depending on the movement of the warm front and surface low throughout the day. Currently the greatest threat appears to be around the Wichita area, but that could change as the day progresses.

Below is the national weather map from the NWS.
