Monday night fire damages home

Hays Fire DeptAt 9:03 PM on Monday the City of Hays Fire Department, Police Department and Ellis County EMS were dispatched to a building fire in a house at 2301 East 15th Street.

On arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke conditions and found a fire burning in the utility room and starting to spread into the rest of the house. Firefighters advanced one attack hoseline and one back-up hoseline to quickly control the fire. Ellis County EMS paramedics checked the occupants for injuries.

The house suffered direct fire damage in the utility room and areas nearby as well as heat, smoke and water damage throughout. The fire started in the clothes dryer however the exact cause was not determined. The Red Cross assisted the occupants with alternate housing.

Your City of Hays Fire Department would like to remind everyone of the importance of keeping your clothes dryer and exhaust vent clean of dryer lint and in good working order.
