Olathe firefighters said a candle was responsible for starting a fire that did  $70,000 in damage to a home Thursday afternoon.

Crews said they were called to the home at 33 Ventura Lane just before 1:30  p.m.

Investigators said a candle set a wingback chair on fire, which quickly  spread through the rest of the living room.

A woman and small children who were in the house when the fire started were  able to get out safely. No one was injured.

Firefighters urged people to keep candles at least 3 feet away from anything  that could burn. They also recommended battery-operated flameless candles as a  safer substitute.
