Fire investigators are blaming an electrical malfunction for the cause of the fire at Space Station Storage, 1100 Ohio, early Wednesday morning.
“We believe the cause of the fire to be electrical in nature and that it did start above a ceiling and spread,” Augusta Department of Safety Police Chief Tyler Brewer advised.
Brewer also confirmed that damages have been estimated around $200,000.
The fire that was reported at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday caused damage to 8-10 units.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, the office area and adjacent units were engulfed in fire and heavy smoke. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within 45 minutes.
