The Gene Cocker residence, 111 S Sycamore, lost its garage last week. The son, Lonnie, went out to the garage and saw the fire coming out from under the rollup doors. It was fast burning, there were two cars there, a 96 Cadillac and a 75 Mercury, a small 1964 Fox Motorcycle and lots of tools, and a couple of gas cans. It sounded like several explosions and it was thought the gas tanks on the cars and gas cans caused this. Lonnie was burned on his face and arm from trying to get the garage door up to back out one of the cars. They were lucky that the garage wasn’t connected to the house, and also that there wasn’t much wind. The cause was not determine at this time.
The family want to thank especially Eldon Mellenbruch and Sharon Beswick for their help and the Walnut Township Fire Department and others for helping put out the fire and saving the roof on the house.
