On July 17, at 7:30 p.m. the Board held a special session to discuss the possible annexation of the cities of Cottonwood Falls and Strong City into Chase County Fire District No. 1.

In attendance at the meeting were, County Attorney, William T. North, representing Fire Dist. No. 1, Fire Chief Mark Davis (who was called away during the meeting), representing Strong City, Mayor Mike Cahoone, Cottonwood Falls, City Councilmen Carl Studer and Buddy Sisson, and former Chairmen Janice Glanville and Kenneth Dawson.

All parties involved discussed the issue at length. Both cities expressed interest in annexing into Fire District No. 1 and agreed as requested by the Board that on or before Sept. 1, each will provide Chief Davis a complete inventory of equipment and other capitol assets that each would propose to contribute to Fire District No. 1.

The issue, as well as time with Chief Davis, were scheduled for the Board’s regular session on September 9, at which time Chief Davis will present the information provided by both parties along with a complete inventory of equipment and other capital assets currently held by Fire District No. 1.

The Board is taking the matter under consideration, and plans to make a proposal to each city regarding annexation after all data has been reviewed.
