For a dollar, RPM Speedway has a tanker truck.
At its meeting Tuesday at the Ellis County Courthouse, the Ellis County Commission agreed to sell a surplus tanker truck assigned to the Victoria company of the Ellis County Rural Fire Department for $1.
The new truck would replace an older tanker truck the race track got from the county.
“The reason they would like the truck from Victoria … it has a little bit more capacity to wet the track down,” Ellis County Commission Chairman Dean Haselhorst said. “Right now … they constantly refill and refill. They use a lot of water on a given race night.”
Haselhorst said the race track would be willing to give back the old tanker truck, but his fellow commissioners said they didn’t want it. Haselhorst said it was his understanding the race track would strip the old truck for parts, then dispose of it.
