KAKE – November 14, 2013
Part of Market Street south of downtown Wichita was blocked Wednesday night, while firefighters dealt with a fire at a duplex. Damage was kept to a minimum.
The fire developed shortly before 11:00 p.m. in an upstairs area at 1220 South Market. Firefighters isolated it, before the fire could spread to the attic.
Battalion chief Rich Harris told KAKE News his crew handled things so quickly, part of the duplex never had to be evacuated. “No injuries, everybody’s safe,” Harris said, “and the occupant was staying with a relative tonight.”
Harris said faulty wiring probably started the fire. Damage to the duplex is estimated at $10,000.
