Feds charge ex-Mayetta fire district treasurer with embezzling $427K

A federal prosecutor has charged a former Mayetta fire district treasurer with embezzling more than $427,000.

The prosecutor’s office in a news release said it filed the charge Tuesday against Richard P. Bontrager, 67, of Holton. The criminal information filing accuses Bontrager of embezzling funds between 2008 and 2013 while managing the finances of Mayetta Rural Fire District No. 1 in Jackson County.
